New Work

Landscapes are the backdrops for Natasha Morland’s paintings. She treats them like stage sets, filling the space with characters discovered in daily forages around the city. Incongruity underlies her work, positioning seemingly unrelated things near to each other and seeing what happens. Urban parks are particularly inspiring to her. She likes the artificiality of such habitats. Domesticity and wilderness sit side-by-side. Tramps in gardens, gazebos in fields, and performers in forests are all common sights. She is drawn to places where one can expect the unexpected, creating ambiguous narratives that are open to interpretation by the viewer.
